Boyd Loftin Johnson, age 76, Mt. Pleasant. Returned to his Father in Heaven quickly and unexpectedly on September 20, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Boyd was born in Mt. Pleasant on December 28, 1944 to John Loftin and Nina K Johnson. Boyd married Shauna Lue Larsen on December 9, 1966 in Chester, Ut. They enjoyed 54 yrs together and raised six children.
Our dad was so proud of his children and his many grand and great-grand children. He holds a special place in each one of our hearts and always will. He loved to tease and would hide and scare anyone who would come to their home. You never knew where he was going to be. Then he would just stand and laugh that amazing laugh that we are all going to miss so much.
He touched the lives of so many. He had such a huge, generous, giving heart. He loved to help others and was so willing and did it so selflessly.
Our dad loved to tell stories, any story but most of all he loved to tell the stories of his life, growing up and how he loved to spend each summer on the mountain herding sheep with his dad and uncles. His uncle Grant has always held a special place in his heart. He learned so many things at such a young age which made him the strong, amazing man we all love.
Our dad not only taught his children but he also taught his grandchildren many life long lessons. He taught us to not only work hard but to take pride in our work or anything we did. He was so proud of his accomplishments in life and loved taking care of his yard and making it beautiful. Our dad and grandpa will dearly be missed! We find comfort in knowing he is reunited with our mom and sister again!

Loyce Elaine Schuhmann, Shauna Lue Johnson, Peggy Poulson , Thompson
Loyce Elaine Schuhmann, age 79, Mt. Pleasant, Ut, peacefully returned to her Father in Heaven on June 30, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. Loyce was born June 23, 1942, in San Diego, CA. She graduated from La Mesa High School in 1959. She then moved to Houston, TX where she met the love of her life, Jon Schuhmann. Loyce and Jon were married on July 3, 1960, in Houston, TX. Shortly after getting married, Loyce and Jon started their family. On July 4, 1961, a son, Chris joined the family. Soon a little girl, Terry April 25, 1963, came along. After living in Texas for a number of years, the family moved to southern California. There they added another little girl Kelly January 24, 1968, and then another baby boy, Michael November 27, 1970. While living in California, Loyce enjoyed her work as the District Office Manager of Lucky’s Grocery Stores.
After joining the church in September 1977, they were sealed as a forever family in the Los Angeles Temple on December 1, 1978.
After almost 20 years in California, Loyce and Jon and Jon decided to retire from their busy jobs and move to Utah. They finally landed in Mt. Pleasant, Utah where they have happily lived for 35 years. After moving to Utah, Loye and Jon had numerous businesses, but Loyce’s favorite was Jecs Office Supply and Craft Coop. Loyce loved being a businesswoman.
After joining the church, Loyce had many callings. She served in the Primary and Young Women's. She was the ward chorister and sang in the ward and community choirs. One of her favorite callings was the Advancement Leader in Scouting. She had that calling for 8 years and at that time she helped 17 young men earn the Eagle Scout award that she was so proud of.
Those boys were incredibly grateful to her and her dedication in helping them. Loyce was also a very devoted Temple worker and served in the Manti Temple cafeteria for 8 years. Loyce was also called to do Indexing (Genealogy) at the Gunnison Prison. Loyce and Jon were also called to go to the prison and do Family Home Evenings there on Monday nights. They enjoyed serving together for 5 years at the prison.
Loyce absolutely engulfed herself in doing the genealogy work for her family. She spent many days and nights working on it at home and the Family History Center. Loyce was an avid journal writer. Loyce loved to serve her Heavenly Father in any way that she could. She was continually serving those around her.
In her early years, Loyce loved to do oil painting. She loved quilting with her mother-in-law when she would come to visit for 6 months during the summer for many years. Loyce enjoyed having a big family garden. She enjoyed canning and sharing the harvest that their hard work produced.
Loyce loved to go to the many yard sales on Saturday morning with her good friend Genial.
Loyce’s greatest joy in this life was her family. Whether they were gathered together at Palisades, or Sunday dinners, birthdays, BBQs, card games, board games, or kickball in the front yard, it was being together as a family that she loved most. Besides her family, Loyce’s fur babies were loved just as much as her family. Loyce loved to sit out on the front porch at night with her sweetheart and enjoy the peacefulness of the town.

Stephen Brent Monsen
Obituary for Stephen Brent Monsen
1936-2021
Stephen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away June 8, 2021. He was surrounded by family members as they cried, laughed, and shared memories of his life and love.
Stephen was born May 29, 1936, in Spring City, Utah to Sheldon Monsen and Inez Justesen Monsen. His aunt always told the story of Stephen being born in the family home while she held the light. He spent his childhood in Mt Pleasant Utah, playing sports, riding horses, herding sheep, and of course being with friends and family. It was in grade school that Stephen started teasing a girl sitting in front of him, Lois Phillips, they later married in 1956 in the Manti Temple and the teasing continued throughout their marriage. Stephen and Lois added two sons to their family in 1957 and 1958 and a daughter in 1960. True to tradition, the 2 sons continue Stephens's love of teasing. Stephen was not afraid of hard work and always expected perfection. Stephen graduated from Snow College in 1955 and from Brigham Young University in 1960; the day his daughter was born. He worked for the Fish Game in Ephraim, Utah and continued his career as a botanist for the US Forest Service in Boise, Idaho and Provo, Utah. He was an expert in his field and published numerous papers and books on rangeland ecology. He had a love for the outdoors, gardening, raising animals, hunting, and spending time at his cabin in Fairview, Utah. His greatest love was his family. He loved supporting them in all of their activities and giving everyone in the family encouragement and guidance in their lives. An additional love of Stephen’s was food--especially sweets. A couple of the family’s favorite memories are of Grandpa Steve starting up his tractor, putting the grandkids (or great-grandkids) in the bucket, and driving the backroads in Mapleton to get a candy bar and a soda pop. When they returned from the tractor ride he would tell the kids scary stories and spend hours playing catch. Stephen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions throughout his life. He was always serving others and made sure to teach his children the importance of charity; this Christ-like example is something the family hopes to carry on.
He is survived by his wife Lois Phillips Monsen, children; Craig and (Shelly) Monsen, Tod and (Robi) Monsen, and Stephanie and (Jon) Anderson, 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sheldon and Inez Monsen, brothers; Sheldon Jay Monsen and John Phillip Monsen, and grandchildren; Amy Rebecca Monsen and Jesse Stephen Monsen.
Funeral and viewing Service will be held at the Mapleton 23rd ward building house (1050 N 300 W) Friday, June 18th at 10:30 AM. A viewing will precede the services Thursday, June 17th at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Friday, June 18th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Stephen will be buried in the Mt. Pleasant, Utah cemetery. Gordon was a talented musician, playing the trumpet throughout high school and college. Jack attended Wasatch Academy, graduated from BYU with a BA degree, and received a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Utah Law School. He often claimed his best decision in life was to marry his high school sweetheart and eternal companion Joan Laree Stevens on June 23, 1962 in the Manti Temple. Together they have enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage and five children. His greatest pleasure came from his family whom he loved with all his heart. He enjoyed reading and collecting books, spending time at his family cabin, and making sure everyone else was taken care of.
Described as the ultimate gentleman, Jack created friends and associates from all walks of life. He was known as a man of integrity, very trusted in relationships, doing business all his life with a handshake, and was extremely generous. Jack was a good and honorable man who knew the importance of family and friends. He saw the best in everyone he knew regardless of their background.
Jack was devoted to his family, church, sheep ranch and community. He commuted to Salt Lake City weekly for over 30 years so his children could be raised in his beloved Sanpete. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in his callings. As a young missionary he served in the Uruguay Montevideo Mission. He also served as a teacher, in multiple stake high councils, as high priest group leader, ward mission leader, bishopric counselor, and as bishop of the Ephraim YSA 9th Ward where he was loved by the members.
Jack has managed the Fairview Land and Livestock Sheep Ranch for the past 39 years. He recently presided over the 150-year celebration of its organization as the Fairview Co-op. He felt strongly of his stewardship and used the ranch to connect his children and grandchildren to his parents and grandparents. He appreciated the sheep industry and camaraderie amongst other woolgrowers in the area.
His professional career started with the law firm of Barker and Rydberg. He served as Sanpete County Attorney for four years. For over 30 years he worked as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of Utah. He was legal counsel for Snow College, among other colleges in the state. Jack was instrumental in building a state school in the Four Corners region for the Navajo Nation. He worked with the State Trust Lands and was recognized with the “Friends of Children“ award from the State PTA for his efforts.
He served on the Board of Trustees for Sanpete Valley Hospital for 37 years and served two terms on the Board of Trustees at Wasatch Academy. Jack worked on the Manti La-Sal National forest resource advisory committee. He also loved the Fairview Museum and served in various positions for 30 years.
Jack was a big advocate of Scouting, earning his Eagle Scout award, completing Wood Badge, and serving as a Wood Badge counselor. He was a recipient of the Second Miler Award and the Silver Beaver Award. He devoted resources and time in helping and developing boys to become good men.
Jack loved music. He played the trumpet in high school and college marching bands. He loved to sing, and performed for many years in ward and stake choirs and in the Mt Pleasant Community Easter Offering.
Jack is survived by his wife Joan, and children: Steve McAllister, Lori (Troy) Birch, Richard (Jenny) McAllister, David (Emily) McAllister, Kathryn (Jason) Carrillo; 14 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Scott (Lora) McAllister, Clark (Linda) Brockbank, Wayne (Nancy) Brockbank and Anne (Brett) Woodard.
