Funeral Service for Wilford Hafen




Salt Lake Telegram 24 Nov 1921 SERVICES HELD FOR CHURCHMAN WILFORD HAFEN, CHOIR MANAGER, LAID TO REST 24 Nov 1921 Mount Pleasant, Utah Mount Pleasant, Nov 24----Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the North Ward chapel for Wilford Hafen, who died last Saturday from injuries suffered when his horse fell with him. The services were conducted by Bishop H. C. Jacobs. Music was furnished by the choir, with special numbers by Elida Staker and George Squires. A male quartet consisting of Harold Olversen, George Squires, Lloyd Barton and Theodore Christensen sang. Miss Marjorie Winters and Tom Tomlinson sang. The speakers were; William Olsen, William E. Watson. J.W. Anderson, President A. Merz and Bishop Jacobs. The opening and closing prayers were offered by Joseph Seely and G. M. Nielsen. The grave was dedicated by H. C. Jacobs. Mr. Hafen was born in this city June 12, 1882. He was married to Miss Carrie Nielsen October 19, 1907. He is survived by his widow and three sons, Boyd, Neil, and Bert, his mother Catherine Hafen, and the following brothers and sisters; Emil Hafen, Mrs. Lizette Beck, Mrs. Lydia Hansen, Mrs. Hermena Rasmussen, Mrs. Pauline Seely and Mrs. Anna Johnsen all of Mt Pleasant; Mrs. Frank Hansen of Moroni and Mrs. Rozetta Brandstead of Melba, Idaho. Mr. Hafen was a active church worker, having been manager of the North ward choir for several years, and which position he held at the time of his death. He was a member of the National Guard for several years.

 Mona, UT—Paul R. Peel the son of Orange F. Peel and Karen Johanna Olsen died October 9, 2014. He was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, Ut. He served in Great Lakes Mission. Married Frances Bushman. He served in Nauvoo Illinois, Adam-ondi-Ahman and Independence, Missouri missions. Survived by second wife Emalie, his children: Glen, Dale, Sylvia, Larry, Michael, Chris, Amelia, Gayle, 7 step children & sister Ruth. Proceeded in death by parents, wife Frances, daughter Ruth Ann. PetersonDavidDavid Lund Peterson, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, UT passed away June 9, 2014. David was born August 29, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant to Mouritz Charles and Christiana Matilda Emilia Peterson. He married Mary Lyle Mendenhall in the Salt Lake Temple on May 31, 1950.
David has spent his life in service to his community and his church. He was elected 5 times and served 18 years as a member of the North Sanpete school board, of which one term he served as President. He received special recognition for 50 years of service to the Pleasant Creek Irrigation Co., and served as President and water master. He was instrumental in spearheading the Gooseberry Narrows Project and many other water and irrigation projects. He had a love for the scouting program. He served as scout master for 20 years. David had a very strong testimony of the gospel, served in many callings and dedicated his life in service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Right from being a young boy David loved farming and knew that it was what he wanted to do. He raised sheep, pigs, mink, cows and many other animals. He raised his own hay, grain, wheat and grew seed potatoes. David was widely known for his mutton and sour dough dinners, 4th of July Breakfasts and Scout banquets.
Survived by Judith Sperry (sister), 7 children: David Leon Peterson, Susan Ann Thompson, Sarah Jane (Larry) Chatterley, Charles Allen Peterson, Martha Ellen (Jerry) Larsen, Mary Elaine (Michael) Murphy, Christianna (Kevin) Holman. 31 Grandchildren and 52 Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Lyle Mendenhall, brothers: Albert Peterson and Lyman Peterson. Sisters: Eleanor Kjar Madsen, Lucille Blackham and Dorothy Victoria Blackham
Funeral services will be held Saturday June 14, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Mount Pleasant 3rd Ward chapel (295 S State). Viewing will be held Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Rasmussen Mortuary and Saturday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment in the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery. Tommy Leland Larsen, 67 of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, passed away May 30, 2014 in Nephi, Utah. Tom was one of four children born to LeRoy & Carla Snow Larsen on November 1, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Tom was a hard worker and very dedicated to his family. He liked music and loved to dance.
Tom is survived by his sister Pat (Carl) Matthews, Farmington, NM; special cousin, Mont Larsen, Mt. Pleasant, along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack and sister Glenna Nunley.
Graveside services will be Tuesday June 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery. The grave will be dedicated by Bishop Jason Clawson. Pallbearers will be Mont Larsen, Clint Larsen, Quin Larsen, Shane Larsen, Jeff Parish, and Jeff Rappleye.

Barbara Beckstrom Swenson





Barbara Beckstrom Swenson native of Mt Pleasant but long time resident of Whittier, California died at her home  there Friday 9 May.  She was 91, daughter of Orald and Edith Nelson Beckstrom and a great granddaughter of Peter Monson early Mt Pleasant Pioneer.  She was a 1934 graduate of Hamilton Grade school and class of 1940 Wasatch Academy.  She married Harry Swenson from Fairview September 1940.   Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Harry, a brother Clair and a sister Joyce.  Burial will be in California.

RuizRichardCoupleCrop Richard Ray Ruiz, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home on April 10, 2014. Richard was born on March 3, 1937 to Bernard J. and Pearl Shields Ruiz in Salt Lake City, UT.
He married the love of his life, Margaret Anne (Peggy) Ruiz, on Feb. 1, 1960. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1962.
He graduated from Granite High School and worked at Fred A. Carlson Cadillac, Kennecott and Mark Brown/Ethan Allen Furniture. In 1968 he moved to Sanpete County and started a career in real estate, owning and operating United Farm Agency and Unitee Real Estate for over 40 years. He was instrumental in starting a volunteer ambulance service in the Sanpete Valley and volunteered many hours to the ambulance association. He went on to work for Sanpete Valley Hospital as an x-ray technician and later became the clinical engineer for the hospital. He was an avid boater, fisherman, horseman and loved the mountains and his cabin. He could fix anything and was always willing to help. He had an amazing work ethic. He loved his family, his tractor, his backhoe and his cat. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Richard was friendly and outgoing. He had a positive influence on all who knew him and did everything to make those around him feel like part of his family. We love you and will miss you dad. He is survived by his wife, Peggy , their children, Robyn (Dennis) Munk, Mt. Pleasant; Brian (Kelli) Ruiz, Orem, Utah; Teri Beamish, Mt. Pleasant, Utah; Steven (Kristina) Ruiz, Pleasant Grove, Utah; 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many, many unofficially adopted kids and grandkids. Brothers, Richard (Gloria) Cano, Palmdale, California; Ronald (Karla) Ruiz, LaVerkin, Utah; Michael (Patty) Ruiz, Tooele, Utah and Robert (Tracy) Ruiz, West Jordan, Utah. Sister, Claudia (Ronald) Bennion, Mt. Pleasant, Utah and an uncle, Clifton Ray (Maxine) Shields, Tooele, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held April 16th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant North Stake Center. Viewing will be from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to services. Interment will be at the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.
