Evan Philip Johnson passed away August 22, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Phil was born in Manti April 11, 1937 to Evan and Mildred Peterson Johnson. He graduated from Manti high school and continued his education to become a math/shop teacher. He married Sandra Nielson on August 11, 1955. He started his teaching career in Tooele and then Nephi to finally land in Mt Pleasant in 1964 where he taught shop/math. He also raised turkeys in Manti during the summers where he taught his children to work. He would load us up in the truck and head to Manti during wee hours to debeek, move or kill turkeys. Washing yellow quart bottles for water and counting dead turkeys were a few priceless memories of seasons taught on the value of work. Later he taught math, became Vice Principal and Principal after obtaining his masters degree from BYU. Then after he stopped raising turkeys he spent the summers building different projects, be it turkey coops, remodeling homes or building houses with Merwyn Kjar. After retiring he bought a big truck and drove his truck hauling Norbest turkeys all over the country. Dad was devoted to education. He tutored many students and was known for his “board of education.” He loved to hunt, be it deer, elk, buffalo or pheasant. He enjoyed hunting with his family. Proud to hunt with four generations. He also loved to fish, fishing with friends and family. He spent lots of time in Hanksville with Elliot Arnoldson and the café. Dad loved taking care of his yard and had such a hard time letting go this summer with his body failing him and no water. He’d be out trying to weed or spray weeds until he was in trouble at which time he’d text for help. Going to coffee each morning and visiting with his friends was often the highlight of his day. He hated missing it. Cherrie and Frank and Don were so good to take him to Fairview to be with his group of friends. He had a testimony of the gospel and enjoyed attending sacrament and later watching his meetings on Zoom when it got to where he couldn’t attend. He always said he could hear better. Dad was always very thankful for family and never missed thanking us for all we did. He was never a burden and we loved him dearly.

Dad was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Johnson, 2 granddaughters Carmandee Brotherson and Trina Johnson. His parents Evan and Mildred Johnson, a sister Yvonne Johnson and a brother Carl Johnson. A son-in-law Greg DeMille. His wife’s siblings and spouses (Joann Nielson , Camille and Reed Oberhansley, William “Dave” Nielson, Dana and Dave Hensler) and his brother’s in law Kent Larsen and Carl Viehweger.

Surviving are his children LuCinda (Terry), Chad (Janet), Cherrie (Frank), Carma (Burkley) and Craig (Lisa), 24 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Sisters Janet Peters (Wilford), Camille Larsen, Faye Mower (Paul), and Evalyn Viehweger and two Sisters-in-law Diane Johnson and Sena Strode. Lots of nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Stake Center (295 S State St, Mt. Pleasant). Viewings will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services both at the church. Interment in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.

Steven Reid Goble, age 76, passed away on August 24th, 2024 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, UT. Steven was born May 6th, 1948, to Edward Edgar Goble and Mary Reva Bown in Manti, UT. Steven was the oldest of 4 children. He married Ellen Mae Brotherson on April 2, 1967, in Elko, NV. They raised their two boys Steven Troy and Ricky Ray Goble in Mount Pleasant, UT.

Most of his early childhood was spent in Manti and Ephraim, UT helping his grandparents and stepfather LaRell Larsen raise turkeys at the family farm. Steven attended Manti High School. During his Junior year, he met Ellen at the weekly armory dance in Mt. Pleasant. They dated for a year and a half before they were married. A year later they welcomed their first son Troy and two years later Rick joined the family.

Steven worked in construction for 16 years and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union No.3 for 34 years. His job took him to Nevada, California, Colorado, and Utah. His most memorable projects were working in Area 51 and aiding in the clean-up of the Thistle, UT flood in 1983.

Steven was able to follow his dream of opening his own auto body shop. He and his two boys worked weekends for many years to build the shop and in 1990, they were able to open Laser Auto Body. Steven was able to teach both his sons and two grandsons the workings of the auto body shop. To know Steven was to know that he was very dedicated to his work, and he continued working until the very end.

In their spare time, Steven and Ellen, worked tirelessly to rebuild the old Aspen Hills Lodge, turning it into a family cabin where the whole family enjoyed many holidays, events, and parties.

Later in life, he found a love for raising cattle, giving each their own unique name.

Steven enjoyed restoring his 1970 Chevelle,1969 Camero, and many other classic vehicles. Most days you could find him at the shop or having coffee visiting with friends.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ellen (Brotherson) Goble; Children: Troy (Erin) Goble, Rick (Stacey) Goble; Grandchildren: Brandon (Destiny) Goble, Brittaney (Brody) Dominguez, Bradi (Cameron) Weston, Callie Goble, Kaitlyn (Easton) Tanner, Ray Goble, Kaybree Goble; Great-grandchildren: Natalee Colwell, Brinley Hansen, Brantley Weston, Brysen Goble, Brooks Weston, Tate Tanner, Banks Dominguez; Siblings Claire (Ann) Larsen, Shelia (Scott) Robertson, Sandy (Corinne) Larsen. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Reva Bown, father Edward Goble, stepfather LaRell Larsen, stepfather Reid Hiatt, and grandparents Evan and Liza Larsen.

Kenneth Darell Palmer died peacefully on September 21, 2022 at home surrounded by his family after valiantly enduring 35 years of health challenges. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, J.Duffy Palmer and Jocelyn Jensen Palmer.

Ken was born on September 21, 1946, in Winslow Arizona. He was born happy and would wake up with a big smile no matter the hour. Ken started his ranch work early, at five years old, he roped six of the neighbor’s dogs and tied them to the fence in his yard. Thankfully, his mother intervened before he could brand them. Ken has been known for his eternal optimism; as a small boy he was sure he could fly off the shed roof with a sheet for his wings.

Ken had a tremendous love for all sports but particularly football. He loved to play, and his grit and passion always made up for his lack of size. Football pads and helmet made him feel invincible and he would get pummeled and get back up, pummeled, and jump back up, hit again and again by players twice his size but would always get back up all the more determined.

Ken served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sydney, Australia. When getting ready to leave, his Dad asked if he was scared and Ken replied “I’m just very excited.” He served his mission with the same joyful passion and enthusiasm he displayed any time he was faced with a challenge. When he returned home he walked-on to the Weber State football team and became their starting corner.

Ken met his beautiful blue-eyed bride at a dance and with his signature enthusiasm asked her why the most beautiful girl in the room wasn’t dancing. She took his offered hand and he found her to be the woman of his dreams. Ken married Charlene Brothersen May 29th 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. The two of them dreamed of having a big family. Ken wanted 11 kids, to make an entire football team, but they had 10, and he joked they were all boys, but eight. Nothing was too big for him to tackle and so he followed another dream to Mt. Pleasant Utah and bought a ranch, with very little understanding of how to make it work. Most people expected him to fail, but they didn’t know of his eternal optimism, shear grit and the power of his faith. He created a home and environment perfect for raising his best crop – children.

Ken lived a life of service. He served in church callings, in the community and spontaneously , often inviting family or even perfect strangers to the ranch to share his life, family and goodness. Once on the ranch, people became life-long friends – not being able to resist the clarion call of Ken’s love, enthusiasm or song. Ken would bring out the guitar and sing with gusto, but his songs were never designed to show-off, he would draw everyone in and teach them the harmonies and somehow with his help, all voices and personalities blended smoothly.

Although he suffered for 35 years with intense health challenges, he never cursed God, he never complained. He took whatever God gave him and bore it with faith. Physical pain was his cross to bear and he did so with trust, resilience, and an eternal optimism. Ken was cowboy to the core, he handled pain quietly, he rescued anyone and anything in danger, that saw what needed to be done and just did it. His cowboy sense of integrity and love of land was felt by all he knew. He loved his wife, his ranch and his horses with the same passion as everything else. He looked forward with perfect faith to the day he could run and ride again.

Ken is survived by his wife, Charlene Palmer and his children: Nathan (Katrina) Palmer, Heidi (Paul) Bouck, Matthew (Stacy) Palmer, Charity (Brian) Johns, Abigail (Spencer) Cox, Maggon (Travis) Osmond, Annalisa (Joe) Bailey, Hayley (Milo) Andrus, Lisle (Chad) Dewey, Brittany (Rustin) Walker, and 53 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday September 26th at 12:00 p.m.., viewing from 10:30 am. to 11:30 am. An additional viewing on Sunday September 25th from 6-8. All in Mt Pleasant Stake Center (295 S. State St.) Interment in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.

Sandra Kae Nielson Johnson

Sandra Kae Nielson Johnson, age 81, passed away April 17, 2019 at the Sanpete Valley Hospital, surrounded by loving family after suffering from congestive heart failure. She was born June 5, 1937 in Salt Lake City to William and Sena Nielson and was raised in Ephraim. She attended Snow High in Ephraim. She met her sweetheart, Evan Philip Johnson, on a blind date. They were married on August 11, 1955, and were later sealed in the Manti Temple on April 16, 1966.
While raising her children, she attended and graduated from Mary’s College of Beauty in Provo, Utah. She owned and operated Sandra’s Country Curl in Ephraim. Art class in high school was her love and passion. When her children were older, she self taught herself how to paint. In the early nineties, Sandra was named Utah’s Leading Woman Artist. She has painted many inspiring paintings in oil, pastels, watercolors, and acrylics. Her artwork is displayed in many homes and museums all over Utah.
Sandra was very talented in many areas, there wasn’t anything she could not do. She loved the beauty of earth, and became an avid gardener. This showed in her immaculate yard that is admired by many people in the community.
Sandra loved her family. She loved to watch her grandchildren and great grands perform. Her happiest times were with her family. She wanted to live long enough to see her great-great grandchild, but was not able to. She was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Say Saints. She had a great testimony and strongly believed in priesthood blessings.
She is survived by husband, Evan Philip Johnson. Children: LuCinda (Terry) Brotherson, Mt. Pleasant; Chad (Janet) Johnson, Fairview; Cherrie (Frank) Servey, Mt. Pleasant; Carma (Berkley) White, Mt. Pleasant; Craig (Lisa) Johnson, Price, her sisters; JoAnn Hosick, Camille Oberhansley, Sena Janel Strode, and her brother William (Pete) Nielson.
Sandra has 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and a great, great grandson due in July.
Preceded in death by her parents William and Sena Nielson; sister, Dana Hensler; 2 granddaughters; Carmandee Kae Brotherson and Trina Marie Johnson; son-in-law, Greg DeMill; 6 brother-in-laws, Reed Oberhansley, Dave Hensler, Kent Larsen, Carl Johnson, Frank Hosick and Charles Young.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mount Pleasant 3rd Ward Chapel. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Mt.
