Allan Leon Beck, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023, at his home in Orem, Utah, surrounded by his family just short of his 90th birthday. Allan was born on April 28, 1933, to Earl Hafen Beck and Ruth Olsen Beck in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He was one of five children, Earl Duane (passed at birth), Allan, Eldon, Earlene and Ruth Ann.
He grew up in Indianola, Utah, and was always very active and loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and playing football, basketball and track. He graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1951, and afterward attended the University of Utah in 1952. He served in the Utah National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, spending time overseas in Taiwan. Allan was very proud to be a Veteran and had a great love for our nation’s flag.
He married his high school sweetheart Marian Ruth Nielson on June 4, 1953. They were married 25 years and were blessed with four children, Mark Allan, Malinda, Marianne and Matthew.
Allan had a love for learning and could build or fix anything he put his mind to. He built the first workable television in the area at Indianola in 1949. It is now in the Fairview Museum. He installed the first TV in Mt. Pleasant at Herman Beck’s home before TV stations moved their transmitting stations high on the Oquirrh Mountains west of Salt Lake City.
He founded Beck’s TV, a local business in Mt. Pleasant in 1958. His son Mark Allan took over the family business in 1980 and it continues today as a retail home furnishings business on Main Street.
In January 1958, he engineered and installed Sanpete County’s first television translator relay site, located at the base of the mountain east of Mt. Pleasant. This translator station made TV possible for Mt. Pleasant and surrounding towns and is still functioning today.
He held many offices in the Chamber of Commerce, including the president. He was a charter member of JC’s and the Sanpete County Search & Rescue and held several offices in both organizations. He served as Mayor of Mt. Pleasant (1978-1980) and worked hard to make improvements to the city, including the municipal sewer system and settling ponds west of the airport. He also was able to get the airport improved from gravel to a paved landing surface.
On July 23, 1980, he married the love of his life Betty Moulton Harvey at “The Lake” in Indianola, Utah, and increased his family by two children, Craig and Katie Sue. They were later sealed in the Provo Utah LDS Temple on April 28, 1984. They made their home in Orem, Utah.
They loved spending time in Indianola, and created a Hideaway there, constantly improving and caretaking the pond on the mountain (“The Lake”) and considered it their home away from home. Their family, including children and grandchildren, have come to love The Lake and the beautiful surroundings that Allan has been instrumental in creating.
Allan also worked at Wells Distributing and then Ryan Distributing, both in Salt Lake City, as Service Manager of their appliance division, and later worked at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (Provo) in the Engineering Department, fixing and maintaining all the electronics in the facility. He retired from Intermountain Healthcare in 1996 so that he could spend more time in his favorite place, Indianola.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Moulton Beck and 6 children, Mark Allan (Laura) Beck, Malinda (Scott) Overman, Craig (Carolyn) Harvey, Marianne (Patrick) Davis, Matthew (Becky) Beck, Katie (Eric) Peterson, 24 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, 11:30 a.m. at the LDS chapel on 500 South 600 West Orem, UT. Viewing 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery. Many thanks to Dignity Home Health & Hospice team, especially Markae, Marisela and Melissa who took great care in assisting Allan in his final days.

On December 12, 2022, Tony Edmunds took the next step on our journey here on earth. He was born July 29, 1947 in Payson, Utah to Fred and Edna Edmunds. His childhood memories centered around family, friends, sheep, sheep camps, mutton and sour dough. Tony joined the army in 1964 and proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. He married his first wife Vickie Cox, of Manti, Utah and together they had two children. Trisha and Bret. He left the military and later married Julie Sorensen, together they shared 38 of the very best years that could be spent on earth.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Edna Edmunds; brothers, Jon, Kevin, and Brent Edmunds. He is survived by his children Trisha (Tony) Mitchell, and Bret Edmunds; his wife Julie Edmunds; brothers Phil, Clair Edmunds, and Jeff (Carol) Edmunds; and, his sister Eva (Ken) Olsen; sister-in-law Flora Edmunds. He was loved by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that were like grandchildren to him .

Dick Allred of Spring City Died at Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake

Richard “Dick” Warren Allred, 80 of Spring City, Utah passed away November 1, 2019 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. Born April 24, 1939 to Frank Beck and Evaneal Olsen Allred in Salina, Utah. Dick served his country in the US Navy from 1957 to 1963. Married Dianne Ruth McCormick in 1963. He continued his education and earned his bachelors degree in Engineering. They lived in Southern California until 1978 and then moved to Spring City, UT where they raised their family. He was a member of the Sanpete County Search and Rescue where he served as the Commander and also as a State Commander. Dick enjoyed competition shooting and made many life long friends through Search and Rescue. Dick loved being and doing things with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dick is survived by his sons, Rick (Jody) Allred, Mt. Pleasant, UT; Frank (Lainie) Allred, Pleasant Grove, UT; brother Terry (Nevada) Allred, Spring City, UT; grandchildren, Jessica, Jorie, Riley, Adrianna, Rhyker. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Dianne, sisters LaRea Allred, Judy Allred. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Creek Ward (7655 E 15000 N, Spring City) . Viewings, Tuesday November 5, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services both at the church. Interment in the Spring City Cemetery with Military Honors.

Parley Hansen, 66, retired Mt. Pleasant business man, died at his home Sunday morning from a heart attack.
Mr. Hansen was formerly associated with his brother, the late Mayor Bent R. Hansen, in the lumber and mortuary business and also operated a saw mill, and had extensive building interests. Prior to his retirement a year ago he was employed in the Mt. Pleasant post office as an assistant to Postmaster Ray K. Bohne.
He was a member of the South LDS ward elders' quorum. He had served one term as city councilman and was formerly a member of Liberty camp No. 455, Woodmen of the World and a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Lions club.
He was born in Mt. Pleasant, December 10, 1874 (should be 1975), a son of Bent and Helena Olson Hansen. He was married in the Manti L D S. temple February 21, 1900, to Fredrikka Brothersen, who survives him with one son and four daughters; P. O. Hansen and Mrs. Crystal H. Smith of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Helen H. Poulson of Duchesne; Mrs. Alice H. Ashton of Heber and Mrs. Lucile H. Lipphardt of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Lydia H. Backman, John H. and William Hansen, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Leonard Hansen of Las Vegas, Nev.

John K. Olsen Passes Away
Obituary for John K Olsen
John K. Madsen Olsen peacefully passed away on January 23, 2015, at age 86, due to Interstitial Pneumitis.Born December 3, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to William C. and Pearle Madsen Olsen, the second of three children (sisters Billye Virginia – deceased, and Carlyle Morris). Educated in public schools, he was senior class president and active in sports at North Sanpete High School. He attended University of Utah, but following two and one half years in the French Mission for the LDS Church, and service in the US Air Force, he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1954 with a BA degree and from Stanford University Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in 1957.
Married Susan Ellen Wyllie (1938-1992) on December 14, 1957 (later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple). They had seven children: John Jr. (1958-1976); Erica (Mark) Clayton; Kirsta Olsen; William (Heidi) Olsen; Trevor (Pamela) Olsen; Katrina (Michael) Hall and Amanda (Greg) Adams, with 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
John practiced law in San Francisco and Palo Alto for nearly 15 years and was a partner in the firm of Petty, Andrews, Olsen, Tufts, Jackson & Sander, from which he left in July, 1972, to serve as the first mission president of the Quebec Mission, later the Canada Montreal Mission from the date of world-wide name changes for the LDS Church. Upon release in 1975, he and his family moved to Provo where he opened his office as a sole practitioner of transactional law, and later in various office-sharing arrangements with other attorneys, specializing in real estate law. He was one of the organizers of and served several years as a director and secretary of Bonneville Bank in Provo. He was also active and involved in various real estate and business ventures and voluntarily served on the Provo City Planning Commission and later was Chairman of the Midway City Planning Commission, in addition to his practice. He retired at age 82.
John was active in the LDS Church throughout his life and served as a counselor in two bishoprics, a bishop, a mission president, a stake high councilor, a high priest group leader, various missionary callings, and a faithful home teacher.
He married Linda Mendenhall Campora on June 12, 1995, (solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1996) and moved to Midway, Utah. They labored as Church Education System missionaries in the Washington D.C. North mission (2002-2004), and served together as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple for 13 years.
John had an eye for beauty and loved his extensive art and antique collections. He also enjoyed classical music, symphonies, operas and plays. In earlier years he was skilled in photography, writing, and sang in various performing groups. He spoke excellent French, traveled to many countries throughout the world and was always up to date on current and political events.
His family members and his Canadian missionaries were his greatest loves. He was a man of integrity, honesty and spiritual conviction.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Midway Stake Center (165 N. Center St., Midway). Friends may visit the family at a viewing at the church from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday or from 6:00 - 8:00 on Thursday evening. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo.

Beverly Anderson Olsen Passes Away
Beverly is the lady to thank for the Relief Society Minutes that we post here.
She regularly attended Pioneer Day. She was a long-time member of the Mt. Pleasant First Ward.
