Evan Philip Johnson passed away August 22, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Phil was born in Manti April 11, 1937 to Evan and Mildred Peterson Johnson. He graduated from Manti high school and continued his education to become a math/shop teacher. He married Sandra Nielson on August 11, 1955. He started his teaching career in Tooele and then Nephi to finally land in Mt Pleasant in 1964 where he taught shop/math. He also raised turkeys in Manti during the summers where he taught his children to work. He would load us up in the truck and head to Manti during wee hours to debeek, move or kill turkeys. Washing yellow quart bottles for water and counting dead turkeys were a few priceless memories of seasons taught on the value of work. Later he taught math, became Vice Principal and Principal after obtaining his masters degree from BYU. Then after he stopped raising turkeys he spent the summers building different projects, be it turkey coops, remodeling homes or building houses with Merwyn Kjar. After retiring he bought a big truck and drove his truck hauling Norbest turkeys all over the country. Dad was devoted to education. He tutored many students and was known for his “board of education.” He loved to hunt, be it deer, elk, buffalo or pheasant. He enjoyed hunting with his family. Proud to hunt with four generations. He also loved to fish, fishing with friends and family. He spent lots of time in Hanksville with Elliot Arnoldson and the café. Dad loved taking care of his yard and had such a hard time letting go this summer with his body failing him and no water. He’d be out trying to weed or spray weeds until he was in trouble at which time he’d text for help. Going to coffee each morning and visiting with his friends was often the highlight of his day. He hated missing it. Cherrie and Frank and Don were so good to take him to Fairview to be with his group of friends. He had a testimony of the gospel and enjoyed attending sacrament and later watching his meetings on Zoom when it got to where he couldn’t attend. He always said he could hear better. Dad was always very thankful for family and never missed thanking us for all we did. He was never a burden and we loved him dearly.

Dad was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Johnson, 2 granddaughters Carmandee Brotherson and Trina Johnson. His parents Evan and Mildred Johnson, a sister Yvonne Johnson and a brother Carl Johnson. A son-in-law Greg DeMille. His wife’s siblings and spouses (Joann Nielson , Camille and Reed Oberhansley, William “Dave” Nielson, Dana and Dave Hensler) and his brother’s in law Kent Larsen and Carl Viehweger.

Surviving are his children LuCinda (Terry), Chad (Janet), Cherrie (Frank), Carma (Burkley) and Craig (Lisa), 24 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Sisters Janet Peters (Wilford), Camille Larsen, Faye Mower (Paul), and Evalyn Viehweger and two Sisters-in-law Diane Johnson and Sena Strode. Lots of nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Stake Center (295 S State St, Mt. Pleasant). Viewings will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services both at the church. Interment in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.

Nina Katherine Johnson 94, of Mount Pleasant UT, passed away peacefully February 15, 2016 in Murray, UT. She was born October 23, 1921 in Charleston, UT to John Waldemar & Lucy May Wood Johnson. She married John Loftin Johnson on May 14, 1941 in the Manti LDS Temple. He passed away in 1985. Nina, a unique name for a unique lady.

 Grandma loved recalling that when her parents were asked why they chose her name they told her she was the ninth daughter so they numbered her. 

Nina was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved the Lord with all her heart and spent her life in service of him and all those around her. She served in many roles in the church, some of her favorites were nursery, the blood drive and anything service related. She loved temple work and spent many hours doing the work of our Lord. She was an amazing, strong example of never-ending faith in the gospel. For those that were closest to Nina, she was known as Grandma J. She was adventurous and spicy and was always up for doing something fun. She took her last roller coaster ride at Lagoon at the age of 89 and even took a ride on the Alpine coaster. She ended up being a tiny little lady but boy was she strong. She never ceased to amaze people with her uncanny ability to show off her incredible set of exercises and dance moves. It isn’t too often you witness a woman of her age who can still lay on her back and touch her toes to the ground above her head. Her passion for health and well being was undeniable. She made sure to share her secrets of a healthy long life with everyone she met. You gotta get get the blood flowin up to the heart! If you stop moving you die! Grandma J learned a bit about massage therapy and loved giving a good rub down. Nina loved children and called them her golden hobby. She never passed up an opportunity to get down on the floor and play with the kids. Nina’s memory was astounding. She knew the birth, death and marriage dates of everyone she ever knew, it seemed. Nina was an amazing story teller. She had a series of stories most of us have heard a time to two (or 100+) about her life and all her experiences. Nina wasn’t always the easiest person to get along with. She was stubborn and hard headed at times and very set in her ways. She was determined to do things as she saw fit and lived that way right up until the end.

 Despite her stubborn ways she was kind, loving and thoughtful. She was a true angel and was adored by many. We will truly miss her but know she was met with an army of angels that welcomed her home. She ain’t gonna die to please ya!!! Survived by her children, Carol (Ed) Anderson; Boyd (Shauna) Johnson; Pearl May (late Stephen D.) Robinson; Lora (Dave) Hamilton. Preceded in death by her parents, John Waldemar and Lucy May Wood Johnson; husband, John Loftin Johnson; siblings, Electa Lucy Caldwell, Velma May VanBlairicon, Leona Amy Nielson, Viola Ruby Lyon, John Willard Johnson, Melvin LeRoy Johnson, Margaret Violet Johnson, Cora Blanch Van Blairicon, Nora Ellen Hill, Erma Beth Anderson, Edward Lyon Johnson, Duane Arlo Johnson; sons, Wayne Lee Johnson and Dean Johnson; granddaughter, Wendy Kay Johnson Keisel; son-in–law, Stephen D Robinson. Funeral services will be held Monday February 22, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mount Pleasant 5th Ward Chapel.

Allan Leon Beck

Allan Leon Beck, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023, at his home in Orem, Utah, surrounded by his family just short of his 90th birthday. Allan was born on April 28, 1933, to Earl Hafen Beck and Ruth Olsen Beck in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He was one of five children, Earl Duane (passed at birth), Allan, Eldon, Earlene and Ruth Ann.

He grew up in Indianola, Utah, and was always very active and loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and playing football, basketball and track. He graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1951, and afterward attended the University of Utah in 1952. He served in the Utah National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, spending time overseas in Taiwan. Allan was very proud to be a Veteran and had a great love for our nation’s flag.

He married his high school sweetheart Marian Ruth Nielson on June 4, 1953. They were married 25 years and were blessed with four children, Mark Allan, Malinda, Marianne and Matthew.

Allan had a love for learning and could build or fix anything he put his mind to. He built the first workable television in the area at Indianola in 1949. It is now in the Fairview Museum. He installed the first TV in Mt. Pleasant at Herman Beck’s home before TV stations moved their transmitting stations high on the Oquirrh Mountains west of Salt Lake City.

He founded Beck’s TV, a local business in Mt. Pleasant in 1958. His son Mark Allan took over the family business in 1980 and it continues today as a retail home furnishings business on Main Street.

In January 1958, he engineered and installed Sanpete County’s first television translator relay site, located at the base of the mountain east of Mt. Pleasant. This translator station made TV possible for Mt. Pleasant and surrounding towns and is still functioning today.

He held many offices in the Chamber of Commerce, including the president. He was a charter member of JC’s and the Sanpete County Search & Rescue and held several offices in both organizations. He served as Mayor of Mt. Pleasant (1978-1980) and worked hard to make improvements to the city, including the municipal sewer system and settling ponds west of the airport. He also was able to get the airport improved from gravel to a paved landing surface.

On July 23, 1980, he married the love of his life Betty Moulton Harvey at “The Lake” in Indianola, Utah, and increased his family by two children, Craig and Katie Sue. They were later sealed in the Provo Utah LDS Temple on April 28, 1984. They made their home in Orem, Utah.

They loved spending time in Indianola, and created a Hideaway there, constantly improving and caretaking the pond on the mountain (“The Lake”) and considered it their home away from home. Their family, including children and grandchildren, have come to love The Lake and the beautiful surroundings that Allan has been instrumental in creating.

Allan also worked at Wells Distributing and then Ryan Distributing, both in Salt Lake City, as Service Manager of their appliance division, and later worked at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (Provo) in the Engineering Department, fixing and maintaining all the electronics in the facility. He retired from Intermountain Healthcare in 1996 so that he could spend more time in his favorite place, Indianola.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Moulton Beck and 6 children, Mark Allan (Laura) Beck, Malinda (Scott) Overman, Craig (Carolyn) Harvey, Marianne (Patrick) Davis, Matthew (Becky) Beck, Katie (Eric) Peterson, 24 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, 11:30 a.m. at the LDS chapel on 500 South 600 West Orem, UT. Viewing 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery. Many thanks to Dignity Home Health & Hospice team, especially Markae, Marisela and Melissa who took great care in assisting Allan in his final days.

Sandra Kae Nielson Johnson

Sandra Kae Nielson Johnson, age 81, passed away April 17, 2019 at the Sanpete Valley Hospital, surrounded by loving family after suffering from congestive heart failure. She was born June 5, 1937 in Salt Lake City to William and Sena Nielson and was raised in Ephraim. She attended Snow High in Ephraim. She met her sweetheart, Evan Philip Johnson, on a blind date. They were married on August 11, 1955, and were later sealed in the Manti Temple on April 16, 1966.
While raising her children, she attended and graduated from Mary’s College of Beauty in Provo, Utah. She owned and operated Sandra’s Country Curl in Ephraim. Art class in high school was her love and passion. When her children were older, she self taught herself how to paint. In the early nineties, Sandra was named Utah’s Leading Woman Artist. She has painted many inspiring paintings in oil, pastels, watercolors, and acrylics. Her artwork is displayed in many homes and museums all over Utah.
Sandra was very talented in many areas, there wasn’t anything she could not do. She loved the beauty of earth, and became an avid gardener. This showed in her immaculate yard that is admired by many people in the community.
Sandra loved her family. She loved to watch her grandchildren and great grands perform. Her happiest times were with her family. She wanted to live long enough to see her great-great grandchild, but was not able to. She was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Say Saints. She had a great testimony and strongly believed in priesthood blessings.
She is survived by husband, Evan Philip Johnson. Children: LuCinda (Terry) Brotherson, Mt. Pleasant; Chad (Janet) Johnson, Fairview; Cherrie (Frank) Servey, Mt. Pleasant; Carma (Berkley) White, Mt. Pleasant; Craig (Lisa) Johnson, Price, her sisters; JoAnn Hosick, Camille Oberhansley, Sena Janel Strode, and her brother William (Pete) Nielson.
Sandra has 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and a great, great grandson due in July.
Preceded in death by her parents William and Sena Nielson; sister, Dana Hensler; 2 granddaughters; Carmandee Kae Brotherson and Trina Marie Johnson; son-in-law, Greg DeMill; 6 brother-in-laws, Reed Oberhansley, Dave Hensler, Kent Larsen, Carl Johnson, Frank Hosick and Charles Young.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mount Pleasant 3rd Ward Chapel. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Mt.
