OBITUARY

Leo Osman Osborne, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on July 12, 2019 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Leo was born the third child out of three sons on October 16, 1936 in Spring City, Utah to William Virgus and Athene Osborne. He graduated from North Sanpete High School where he was involved in sports, speech and debate and drama. He also graduated from Snow College and attended BYU. He married Lou Ann Hafen on December 9, 1955 in the Manti Temple. He and Lou Ann raised four children, Lyle, Laura Lee, Lance and Lorette, and lived in Nephi, Utah for 56 years.

Leo was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings including scout leader, Elders Quorum presidency, Sunday School teacher and president, and assistant ward clerk for 36 years.

He was also active in the community, helping with little league baseball and football. He enjoyed advising the Juab High School Rodeo Club, but one of his greatest accomplishments and enjoyments was being a member of the Ute Stampede Committee. He served on this committee for 49 years and Leo made life-long friendships with the men and women he served with. Leo worked for the Juab County ASCS office as a manager, and through this employment, he was involved in the National Association of ASCS where he was voted as the vice-president and president of the Utah group. He went on to serve as the secretary-treasurer with the national group of the NASCOE for 13 years and RASCOE for 7 years. Through these groups Leo traveled the country and was well known and respected for his work.

Leo enjoyed the time he spent each year hunting the Spring City mountains with his dad, brothers, sons, grandsons and nephews. He loved his family very much and he did everything he could for each individual to show them how much Grandpa Ozzie loved them. He could be heard at every function his children and grandchildren were involved in, either cheering them on or trying to make his point.

He is survived by his children, Lyle (Jodie) Osborne, Laura Lee (Kevin) Ockey, Lance (Tausha) Osborne, and Lorette Nielsen. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Lou Ann Hafen Osborne, his parents, and his two brothers, Connell and Glen Osborne.

Lou Ann Hafen Osborne Has Passed On

Lou Ann Hafen Osborne, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away June 20, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born the third of four children on August 2, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant Utah to Mack and Merdith Hafen. She graduated from North Sanpete High School with honors. On December 9, 1955 she married Leo Osborne in the Manti Temple.

She raised her four children Lyle, Laura Lee, Lance and Lorette in Nephi Utah.

Lou Ann was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully her whole life in many callings, including President of the Young Women in her ward, Ward Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society President, Visiting Teacher, Chorister, and Choir Director. She developed many friendships while serving in these callings and she loved helping others and sharing her testimony through music. She also developed life-long friendships with those she worked with for 23 years as a school lunch lady.

Lou Ann was very organized, and kept everything around her immaculate. She honestly believed that “Cleanliness was next to Godliness.”

She loved music. Starting at a very young age she sang with her sisters and she continued throughout her life performing with her beautiful soprano voice in many programs and funerals. Many lives have been touched by her wonderful talent.

Lou Ann loved her family. She could always be seen at every function any of her children were involved in. Then she enjoyed even more supporting her grandchildren in everything they did. Every one of her grandchildren loved their “Grandma Honey.”

She is survived by her husband Leo of 58 years, her four children, Lyle, (Jodie) Osborne, Laura Lee (Kevin) Ockey, Lance (Tausha) Osborne and Lorette Nielsen, all of Nephi, two sisters, Shana Stevens of Ohio and Marcia Dansie of California, one brother, Ed Hafen of Idaho, 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 28, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Nephi 7th Ward Chapel (222 S 100 E, Nephi, Utah) with a viewing 1 hour prior. Friends and family may call from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W 300 N, Nephi, Utah.

Sandra Kae Nielson Johnson, age 81, passed away April 17, 2019 at the Sanpete Valley Hospital, surrounded by loving family after suffering from congestive heart failure. She was born June 5, 1937 in Salt Lake City to William and Sena Nielson and was raised in Ephraim. She attended Snow High in Ephraim. She met her sweetheart, Evan Philip Johnson, on a blind date. They were married on August 11, 1955, and were later sealed in the Manti Temple on April 16, 1966.
While raising her children, she attended and graduated from Mary’s College of Beauty in Provo, Utah. She owned and operated Sandra’s Country Curl in Ephraim. Art class in high school was her love and passion. When her children were older, she self taught herself how to paint. In the early nineties, Sandra was named Utah’s Leading Woman Artist. She has painted many inspiring paintings in oil, pastels, watercolors, and acrylics. Her artwork is displayed in many homes and museums all over Utah.
Sandra was very talented in many areas, there wasn’t anything she could not do. She loved the beauty of earth, and became an avid gardener. This showed in her immaculate yard that is admired by many people in the community.
Sandra loved her family. She loved to watch her grandchildren and great grands perform. Her happiest times were with her family. She wanted to live long enough to see her great-great grandchild, but was not able to. She was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Say Saints. She had a great testimony and strongly believed in priesthood blessings.
She is survived by husband, Evan Philip Johnson. Children: LuCinda (Terry) Brotherson, Mt. Pleasant; Chad (Janet) Johnson, Fairview; Cherrie (Frank) Servey, Mt. Pleasant; Carma (Berkley) White, Mt. Pleasant; Craig (Lisa) Johnson, Price, her sisters; JoAnn Hosick, Camille Oberhansley, Sena Janel Strode, and her brother William (Pete) Nielson.
Sandra has 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and a great, great grandson due in July.
Preceded in death by her parents William and Sena Nielson; sister, Dana Hensler; 2 granddaughters; Carmandee Kae Brotherson and Trina Marie Johnson; son-in-law, Greg DeMill; 6 brother-in-laws, Reed Oberhansley, Dave Hensler, Kent Larsen, Carl Johnson, Frank Hosick and Charles Young.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mount Pleasant 3rd Ward Chapel. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Mt. Marian Ruth Nielson Beck, 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 12, 2019, surrounded by her children at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah on September 29, 1934, the daughter of Ruth Gunderson and Grant C. Nielson. Marian was raised in Mt. Pleasant by her loving grandparents Anna Rolph and Vern H. Gunderson, after her parents divorced early on in her life.
Marian graduated from North Sanpete High and married her High School sweetheart Allan L. Beck in 1953. They were married 25 years and were blessed with four children Mark Allan, Malinda, Marianne and Matthew. 
After their divorce, Marian lived in St. George Utah and then Salt Lake City where she resided until her passing. After moving to Salt Lake City, she worked for Marriott in reservations for many years. She loved her job and the fun trips it enabled her to take with her daughters.
Marian will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kindness and unconditional love, and was referred to by many as a sweetheart. She was an avid New England Patriots football fan and was a beautiful seamstress. She had a love for beautiful orchids, geraniums, fuchsia flowers, the colors bright pink & blue, Eternity fragrance, and most of all, a love for her family and friends.
Her children would like to thank all of her friends at Solstice Senior Living Retirement Community where she enjoyed the last years of her life.
Marian is survived by her children Mark Allan (Laura) Beck of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, Malinda (Scott) Overman of Draper, Utah, Marianne (Patrick) Davis of Pocatello, Idaho, and Matthew (Becky) Beck of Lindon, Utah. She is the grandmother of 16 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 24.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16th, at 1:00 pm, in the Red Brick Chapel on 49 S State Street, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. A viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery. Online condolence at rasmussenmortuary.com

Del Johansen

1938-2019

Del Johansen, Mapleton’s M&M Man, was happily reunited with his loving wife on Sunday, February 24, 2019. He was born on August 23, 1938 to Delbert “Whitey” and Leora Mower Johansen in Mt. Pleasant, Utah and had one sister, Donna Mae (Duane) and one brother, John Lee (Tonya).

Del married Sherry Kollette Skougard on June 7, 1958 in the Manti Utah Temple and together they had four children, Sherry, Ken (Jan), Karen and Kathy (Paul), many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Del was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived a full life of service fulfilling many ward and stake callings, which gave him great joy, especially Bennion Creek Camp.

Del graduated from Snow College and worked for and retired from Sears after 28 years. He enjoyed camping, cooking on the grill, snowmobiling and river rafting. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, sister and brother-in-law.

There will be a viewing on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 6-8 pm at the LDS Stake Center, located at 970 N 400 E in Mapleton. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery (900 S 100 E) at 3 pm.

Virgil Clifford Allred

His family lived next door to me in the east part of town  for many years.

MANTUA - Virgil Clifford Allred, 78, of Mantua, Utah passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014.To our Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa: Thanks for your example. You touched all of our lives and hearts. You will be missed.

Cliff was born Friday, February 13, 1936, in a log cabin in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He is the son of Virgil Clinton Allred and Elva LaVon Hansen Allred.

He married his best friend and love of his life, Mary Frances Taskoski Allred in Benton, IL, on August 4, 1955.

Cliff served his country in the Army 101st 2nd Airborne Paratroopers.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and faithful in his home teaching and scouting callings. He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.

He loved the community of Mantua. He served on the city council and as Mayor for three terms.

Cliff loved learning and was proud of his educational accomplishments, including an MBA and LLB.

Cliff worked for Thiokol Corporation (now ATK) for 38 years. He then worked at Moore Business Forms in Logan before retiring. Cliff and Mary loved traveling together in their RV thru the Midwest and many National Parks, their favorite trip was going on a South African Safari.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary Allred, two sons: Dennis Clifford Allred (Shanna) and Michael Wayne Allred (Stacy), one daughter, Mary Jo Allred-Harden (Michael), siblings, Harry U. Allred, Joanne Wiley, James Allred and Virginia Allred Fowles, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Dianne Marie Allred and Mary Catherine Allred and siblings, Armond Peterson and C

arla Lewis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Mantua Ward Chapel, 237 South Willard Peak Rd., Mantua, Utah. Friends may call on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, Utah, and Friday, 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at the Church, prior to funeral services.

Interment will be in the Mantua Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded.

Roxey Lou Washburn, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Oct 21, 2018. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, September 8, 1926 to Edgar Lyman and Talula Johanna Nelson. She attended Hamilton Elementary school in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from North Sanpete High School. She attended Brigham Young University and taught 3rd grade at Hamilton Elementary 1 year. She married Ralph Washburn August 6, 1948. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple June 1, 2004. Together they raised four sons and two daughters. She was a homemaker first and worked at Mt. Pleasant Elementary school lunch. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many positions including primary teacher, Young Woman’s President, and Relief Society President. She loved her service as an Ordinance Worker in the Manti Temple for over 10 years. She had a strong testimony of the Savior and devoted her life to serving Him through service to others including her family, community and her own mother for many years. She was a pillar in the community serving many years on the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Historical Association and Relic Hall committees. She was Grand Marshal of the 4th of July Parade, active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneer’s and Liocos Club. She had a great love for learning, enjoyed quilting, crocheting, the outdoors, and traveling. She was a rock to her family, church, and community. She was the driving force of annual family reunions and holiday get togethers. She is survived by sons, Allen (Rebecca) Mt. Pleasant; Kevin (Shelley) Wales; Gordon (Shauneen) Tucson AZ and daughters, Debra (Michael) DeMille Kiowa CO; Staci (Peter) Jones Minersville; 24 grandchildren and 39 grand grandchildren; brother Lyman (Maxine) Nelson; and sisters Dolma Christensen and Charlotte Thornton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph; son Andrew Keith Washburn; great-granddaughter Lily; brothers Newel and Robert (Bob); and sisters Dale Carter, Virginia Myers, and Shirley Jensen. Services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Mt. Pleasant North Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (461 North 300 West) with visitation on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 6 – 7 pm at Rasmussen Mortuary (96 North 100 West Mt. Obituary for Dennis Karl Cloward

Dennis Karl Cloward, 71, passed away October 3, 2018 peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was born July 31, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, UT to Marlin and Mary Cloward. 

Dennis looked fondly on his memories of childhood being raised in a small town. He spoke of how he appreciated the slow pace and freedoms in peace Mt. Pleasant offered him as a child. He was sports oriented and took a particular interest in basketball. He excelled in this sport as a high school All-State player at North San Pete and was awarded a basketball scholarship to Snow College. He went on to graduate from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Dennis worked for the airlines for many years and had a strong passion for travel. Dennis not only enjoyed travel by plane, but also by automobile in classic cars, motorhomes, and particularly motorcycles. Dennis was an entrepreneur and owned many businesses ranging from his first as a child selling night-crawlers, to a jazz club as a young man, and then his final success and passion of renting ski accommodations. Dennis had a strong love of nature and especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle in the mountains stating he felt it was “God’s church”. 

Dennis survived by his incredible wife Anna; loving daughter Natalie (Ryan Nelson); beautiful granddaughters Sheali and Brienna; and wonderful siblings Dan (Carolyn), Mike (Fern), and Suzanne (John Hansen). 

Dennis preceded in death by his faithful parents, loyal sister Rosemary, and remarkable son Jeffery. 

Per Dennis’s request, there will not be a funeral service. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to the “You Are Not Forgotten Toy Run”. This is a motorcycle charity run hosted by the UMF motorcycle group that raises proceeds to purchase toys for Primary Children’s Hospital. Donations can be made by contacting Granite Credit Union via phone 801-288-3000, or in person at a Granite Credit Union branch (granite.org).

Dennis was a man of honesty, integrity, wisdom, generosity and love. He was a bright light in this world that will be greatly missed by many. We thank him for the cherished memories, experiences and laughs we were able to share with him. Rest in peace and breathe easy, we love you Dennis.
