Hilda Madsen Longsdorf

Birth:  Nov. 28, 1877 Mount Pleasant Sanpete County Utah, USA Death:  Jan. 12, 1946 Mount Pleasant Sanpete County Utah, USA Mrs. Hilda Madsen Longsdorf, 68, last surviving member of a well-known Mt. Pleasant Pioneer family, died in her home from a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Longsdorf, an active civic and social worker, had been prominently identified with the Mt. Pleasant Historical Assn, of which she was secretary more than 30 years. She had been busy the past week formulating plans for the annual association celebration on March 2. Author of the book, "Mt. Pleasant" a history of the city, published in 1940, she was a charter member and past president of the Twentieth Century club; past president of the O F A, and the O N O and B R G clubs, and served a year as captain of the Mt. Pleasant Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was active in Red Cross work during World War I and chairman of Mt. Pleasant Red Cross chapter in 1924. She helped organize and was first president of the Mt. Pleasant Civic League, actively engaging in city beautification programs. A member of the Mt. Pleasant L D S North ward, she was active in the Y W M I A. Mrs. Longsdorf was born in Mt. Pleasant Nov. 28, 1877, a daughter of Andrew and Johannah Anderson Madsen, and was married to Showman D. Longsdorf, prominent merchant, Oct. 7, 1916. He died Jan. 2, 1935. Surviving are a foster son, Bill Tomlinson, who she raised, he is now in California; two nephews and six nieces, Bruce A. Madsen, Scofield; Antone. W. Madsen, Washington; Mrs. Johannah Hafen, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Louise M. Watts, Moab; Mrs. Alice M. Pannier, Mrs. Evelyn Jenkinson, Mrs. Leone M. Gunderson and Mrs. Annie M. Anderson, Salt lake City. Elvin Francis Frandsen

On April 25, 2015, the loving Husband, Dad (or POPS as the children called him) Grandpa, and the teacher of children to respect nature and wildlife. Elvin Francis Frandsen. Aka, Sarge passed away in Mt Pleasant, Utah at the age of 77.
He was born in Mount Pleasant on June 23, 1937 and was educated in Hamilton Elementary and North Sanpete High School. He lived on a farm and learned to work hard for everything and take care of, and respect both property and animals.
He always had a desire for the military and joined the service shortly after high school. Due to the many changes going on at the time including the Viet Nam conflict he had the opportunity to train and serve in Special Operations, Heavy Artillery, Ground to Air Missiles and Communications Engineering. He was always grateful to serve and lived in many places throughout the world, where he received an education on other cultures and various different faiths.
He and his wife LouEna served numerous hours of volunteer work throughout their communities. Organizing and building a park, teaching 4th graders how to plant trees. Assisting various groups in cleaning the streets throughout the city and county. Sometimes criticized for their work in getting junk off the streets, they continued knowing their forefathers that had cleared the land, built homes, and cared for them would want it taken care of as much as they could.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Edward Frandsen and Clara Opal Kelsey Frandsen.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters Leon (Ginger) Frandsen, Valoy (Mitt) Smith, and Caren (Richard – Deceased) Dixon
Elvin is survived by his loving supporting and caring wife, LouEna Nelson Frandsen. Two children, Kevin George (Christi), Kelly Roy (Leisa) both born through a previous marriage and step sons John Todd Hill and Kevin Jay Hill (Deceased) sons, and daughter Christ Noel (Deceased) of his wife LouEna. He was preceded in death by a son Michael Elvin and daughter Debbie Lynn.
He is also survived by his Grandsons Daniel Roy Frandsen, Brandon Kelly Frandsen and Granddaughter Amanda Marie Frandsen who is also proudly serving in the military.
Nothing meant more to Elvin than his wife and family and being in their presence and in the beautiful mountains that they loved together.

John K. Olsen Passes Away

Obituary for John K Olsen

John K. Madsen Olsen peacefully passed away on January 23, 2015, at age 86, due to Interstitial Pneumitis.

Born December 3, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to William C. and Pearle Madsen Olsen, the second of three children (sisters Billye Virginia – deceased, and Carlyle Morris). Educated in public schools, he was senior class president and active in sports at North Sanpete High School. He attended University of Utah, but following two and one half years in the French Mission for the LDS Church, and service in the US Air Force, he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1954 with a BA degree and from Stanford University Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in 1957.

Married Susan Ellen Wyllie (1938-1992) on December 14, 1957 (later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple). They had seven children: John Jr. (1958-1976); Erica (Mark) Clayton; Kirsta Olsen; William (Heidi) Olsen; Trevor (Pamela) Olsen; Katrina (Michael) Hall and Amanda (Greg) Adams, with 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

John practiced law in San Francisco and Palo Alto for nearly 15 years and was a partner in the firm of Petty, Andrews, Olsen, Tufts, Jackson & Sander, from which he left in July, 1972, to serve as the first mission president of the Quebec Mission, later the Canada Montreal Mission from the date of world-wide name changes for the LDS Church. Upon release in 1975, he and his family moved to Provo where he opened his office as a sole practitioner of transactional law, and later in various office-sharing arrangements with other attorneys, specializing in real estate law. He was one of the organizers of and served several years as a director and secretary of Bonneville Bank in Provo. He was also active and involved in various real estate and business ventures and voluntarily served on the Provo City Planning Commission and later was Chairman of the Midway City Planning Commission, in addition to his practice. He retired at age 82.

John was active in the LDS Church throughout his life and served as a counselor in two bishoprics, a bishop, a mission president, a stake high councilor, a high priest group leader, various missionary callings, and a faithful home teacher.

He married Linda Mendenhall Campora on June 12, 1995, (solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1996) and moved to Midway, Utah. They labored as Church Education System missionaries in the Washington D.C. North mission (2002-2004), and served together as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple for 13 years.

John had an eye for beauty and loved his extensive art and antique collections. He also enjoyed classical music, symphonies, operas and plays. In earlier years he was skilled in photography, writing, and sang in various performing groups. He spoke excellent French, traveled to many countries throughout the world and was always up to date on current and political events.

His family members and his Canadian missionaries were his greatest loves. He was a man of integrity, honesty and spiritual conviction.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Midway Stake Center (165 N. Center St., Midway). Friends may visit the family at a viewing at the church from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday or from 6:00 - 8:00 on Thursday evening. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo.

Salt Lake Telegram 24 Nov 1921 SERVICES HELD FOR CHURCHMAN WILFORD HAFEN, CHOIR MANAGER, LAID TO REST 24 Nov 1921 Mount Pleasant, Utah Mount Pleasant, Nov 24----Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the North Ward chapel for Wilford Hafen, who died last Saturday from injuries suffered when his horse fell with him. The services were conducted by Bishop H. C. Jacobs. Music was furnished by the choir, with special numbers by Elida Staker and George Squires. A male quartet consisting of Harold Olversen, George Squires, Lloyd Barton and Theodore Christensen sang. Miss Marjorie Winters and Tom Tomlinson sang. The speakers were; William Olsen, William E. Watson. J.W. Anderson, President A. Merz and Bishop Jacobs. The opening and closing prayers were offered by Joseph Seely and G. M. Nielsen. The grave was dedicated by H. C. Jacobs. Mr. Hafen was born in this city June 12, 1882. He was married to Miss Carrie Nielsen October 19, 1907. He is survived by his widow and three sons, Boyd, Neil, and Bert, his mother Catherine Hafen, and the following brothers and sisters; Emil Hafen, Mrs. Lizette Beck, Mrs. Lydia Hansen, Mrs. Hermena Rasmussen, Mrs. Pauline Seely and Mrs. Anna Johnsen all of Mt Pleasant; Mrs. Frank Hansen of Moroni and Mrs. Rozetta Brandstead of Melba, Idaho. Mr. Hafen was a active church worker, having been manager of the North ward choir for several years, and which position he held at the time of his death. He was a member of the National Guard for several years.

David Lund Peterson, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, UT passed away June 9, 2014. David was born August 29, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant to Mouritz Charles and Christiana Matilda Emilia Peterson. He married Mary Lyle Mendenhall in the Salt Lake Temple on May 31, 1950.

David has spent his life in service to his community and his church. He was elected 5 times and served 18 years as a member of the North Sanpete school board, of which one term he served as President. He received special recognition for 50 years of service to the Pleasant Creek Irrigation Co., and served as President and water master. He was instrumental in spearheading the Gooseberry Narrows Project and many other water and irrigation projects. He had a love for the scouting program. He served as scout master for 20 years. David had a very strong testimony of the gospel, served in many callings and dedicated his life in service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Right from being a young boy David loved farming and knew that it was what he wanted to do. He raised sheep, pigs, mink, cows and many other animals. He raised his own hay, grain, wheat and grew seed potatoes. David was widely known for his mutton and sour dough dinners, 4th of July Breakfasts and Scout banquets.

Survived by Judith Sperry (sister), 7 children: David Leon Peterson, Susan Ann Thompson, Sarah Jane (Larry) Chatterley, Charles Allen Peterson, Martha Ellen (Jerry) Larsen, Mary Elaine (Michael) Murphy, Christianna (Kevin) Holman. 31 Grandchildren and 52 Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Lyle Mendenhall, brothers: Albert Peterson and Lyman Peterson. Sisters: Eleanor Kjar Madsen, Lucille Blackham and Dorothy Victoria Blackham

Tommy Leland Larsen, 67 of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, passed away May 30, 2014 in Nephi, Utah. Tom was one of four children born to LeRoy & Carla Snow Larsen on November 1, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Tom was a hard worker and very dedicated to his family. He liked music and loved to dance.
Tom is survived by his sister Pat (Carl) Matthews, Farmington, NM; special cousin, Mont Larsen, Mt. Pleasant, along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack and sister Glenna Nunley.
Graveside services will be Tuesday June 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery. The grave will be dedicated by Bishop Jason Clawson. Pallbearers will be Mont Larsen, Clint Larsen, Quin Larsen, Shane Larsen, Jeff Parish, and Jeff Rappleye.
